such a humble gentle man

I met John @UD in 1985 where we both attended. Despite both of us moving around and living in different parts of the country he remained a dear and loyal friend. My roomate and I fell into calling him Mohammed after hearing him tell of a professor that seemed a bit suspicious of him after he came to class in a wavecap....and since his then roomate was also a John it helped differentiate the two...after a few days of giggling it stuck.... John exemplified such a high standard of living a godly life that revolved around serving others. My children saw a devoted son who rejoiced in surprising his mother on sunday mornings to whisk her off to church and we promised not to spoil his surprise when we lllknew he was coming to town-I cherish the obvious delight he had in planning those visits! Coming to terms with the fact that he is no longer here among us will be one of the hardest tasks I have in this life...but I know from our talks about our faith that he is with his Beloved and certainly now knows that we loved him so and is at peace. To say he was a dear friend and an acutely perceptive man seems woefully inadequate....but if you are reading this I am sure you feel the same.....
